I grew up next door to the Kruger National Park and African wildlife has always been a big part of my life… it inspired my academic career and continues to inspire me as an artist. I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and experience some incredible sightings and interactions with wildlife, all of which I try and capture in my artworks.

Inspiration: Trying to catch the movement, reflection and colour of zebras running through water, while flushing up a pair of blacksmith plovers. Part of the 2021 Mosaic Association of Australia and New Zealand juried exhibition

Inspiration: Leopard watching for prey... with a 'hidden' lizard covertly watching the vigilant leopard (i.e. the watcher is being watched). Part of the 2021 Mosaic Association of Australia and New Zealand juried exhibition

Inspiration: This commission was based on a photo taken by the clients during their recent trip to the Kruger National Park... a beautiful leopard resting in a Marula tree. I so loved bringing this special memory to life... and also working in these more muted, earthy tones for a change.

Inspiration: A vervet monkey mother with her young baby. These wild monkeys are daily visitors to my studio and garden... They are very inquisitive and have a piercing (almost alarmed) stare, which I tried to capture here.

Inspiration: This was inspired by an old zebra at a local reserve, just down the road. I really wanted to capture the depth and sparkle in his watchful eyes. I love zebras, probably my favourite mammal! This artwork is my most requested commission piece, and I have a number of artworks (of different variations and angles) on this sweet boy.

Inspiration: My brief for this commission was a woodland setting with the animals caught in the early morning, and with the light filtering in behind them. I tried to link the three artworks together by placing the three animals at different distances from the trees, and by incorporating the bluebells and anemones into all three backgrounds.

Inspiration: I love zebras and loved creating this BIG mosaic with all the reflections. This is one of the most time consuming mosaics I've ever done... more than 200 hours... and literally thousands and thousands of tiny pieces.... I struggled to let this one go!

Inspiration: I really loved designing and creating this special commission as giraffe are one of my favourite animals... such distinctive gentle giants. My brief was for giraffes with a big African sun and vivid sunset.

Inspiration: This leopard is one of the special 'blue-eyed' leopards of Tanda Tula in the Timbavati. Although most leopards have piercing green eyes, there is a family of leopards in the area with distinctive blue tinted eyes. This commission is based on a photo taken by the clients during their trip to the reserve a few years ago.

Inspiration: This happy hippo was having a wonderful midday wallow in the White Umfolozi River (in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi). I just loved the reflection of his head in the shaded waters and his sweet but ever vigilant gaze. The background is made from a combination of tiles, iridescent glass and mirror.

Inspiration: This life size mosaic of a zebra backside was a BIG project! It was great fun to design and bring the chubby bottom to life... The background is made with special red tiles from Zimbabwe. This one is now at home at Nambiti Private Game Reserve
